ahahaha due to yo random prolonged abzence, da VICE-CHAIR find it incumbent upon hiz bad zelf to re-educate yo azz in termz of da curren ZTATE OF DE ART in PENIZM:
Yes, that cut is absolutely unforgiveable. It’s not just the musical point the entire B major has been building up to, it’s also in a wider context Liszt’s pianistic metacommentary on Thalberg.
Yes, THAT would’ve been interesting, but I can’t think of any other pianist who could make me wanna sit through that programme. Maybe Hofmann or Rachmaninoff, or Horowitz from the 20s or 30s.
da TM has a reputation to maintain, which harzhly would be destroyed if any juror or record excec or concert agent read any of hiz recent Lolita poztz.
Friedman would be in the Cziffra vein, Lhevinne would be worth hearing in the SD sheeyats but not in da lyrical sheeyatz. Da Moizt, I don’t think I’d sit through him in a complete chopets programme, even in his prime.
Not sure who I would like in all Chopets recital randomly? Of the ones mentioned probably Lhevinne (my least favourite of them!). I think Friedman has the best etudes recordings in the group, but I’d prefer his etudes in small doses.
I would also have loved to hear a complete Chopin etudes recital from a ca 1976 Cherkassky. And from a ca 1923 Rach.
Yes, Freidman’s and Cziffra’s are best in small doses, but I think probably Friedman’s might be more interesting. It’s still a dog of a programme though.
Sound works here - as with GS age is starting to shine through, but actually more musically than technically. She played well.
For whatever reason though I always enjoy Argerich while she’s playing, but what she does never sticks. Her playing certainly isn’t either bland or boring, but it just doesn’t speak to me emotionally or intellectually. I know I’ve mentioned it in the past, I’m just reminded of the phenomenon again now while listening to this.
